Mealworm Behavior, Part 2

Can a mealworm follow a maze? That was one of the questions that we were trying to answer this week in 1st grade science.  We were also exploring if mealworms like different colors to crawl on, if they can walk up and down hills, if then can follow a string and if they can walk backwards.  Here are some of the first grade thoughts.  "I wonder if it make a difference how high or tall the hill is?" "My mealworm can follow a simple maze, but not if I make it really, really hard."  My mealworm is tricky, it goes over the walls of my maze."  "Color doesn't matter, but the feel of the paper might."  "They all can walk backwards!"  Our behavior experiments led to a lot more questions, and the students came up with variations on the experiments in order to answer their new questions.
