Moving on from our subject about chocolate caliente, we entered the world of animals in 1st grade. We have read "Ferdinand the Bull" (I made a bilingual version of it), learned how to play La Víbora de la Mar (the sea-snake) and we read a story about a oruga (caterpillar) turning into a mariposa (butterfly) as a way to connect with their project on the Mariposas Monarcas (Monarch Butterflies).
This week we began the subject of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) which occurs in Mexico and other parts of Latin America. Día de los Muertos happens on November 1s and 2nd. Unlike Halloween, it is a holiday to celebrate and certainly more traditional or family-oriented oriented.
Here's a brief video that sum up our activities.
